A drawstring can be defined as a material threaded into a casing which are used to close or seal something.

They are used instead of a belt or elastic in the waist line of garments. They are used to close things like duffle bags or purse.

The two most common things where drawstrings can be found are in sports pants or jogging suits or sweat suits or medical pants. The medical pants are called as scrubs.

Such kinds of drawstrings can be seen exteriorly or will be invisible. Things like braid, leather, strips, ribbons or even cords can be referred to as a drawstring. Drawstring bags are those which need a drawstring for closing it.

The drawstring bags can be made to keep the drawstrings which can be pulled out with a safety pin or a bodkin along the casing when the cloth is made ready.

Drawstrings can be fastened externally in case of a bow or even with a buckle. This is done on the basis of its function and differs with each. But in case of the internal drawstring they are made for tying.

While washing the garments with drawstring it should be noted to either tie the ends of the drawstring or to make small knots to prevent them from completely removing from the garment. An advantage in case of drawstrings is that the old ones can be replaced with new ones.
